Breakfast Muffin

Since school started our family has less time in the morning, so we’ve stopped eating hearty breakfasts like hot oatmeal that take a lot of time. We’ve been having breakfast muffins instead. These are quick to eat and a great way to use up extra cereal mix that we weren’t using.

Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips

I have been buying too many bananas for the past few weeks. Maybe it’s because school finally started for us and I thought I’ll need a lot of things to put in school lunch bags. The great thing about bananas is that even if you overbuy, there’s lots of cool recipes that can make use of them — even when they’re a bit brown. Below I make a wonderful banana bread recipe that also has lots of nuts and chocolate goodness.

Zucchini Poppy Seed Bread

It’s been really hot where we live, but my garden has been thriving. I’ve been getting a lot of zucchini in particular. Some of them grew too big in fact, and therefore are not very tender. Yet big zucchinis are still great to use for savory or sweet breads. Check out other zucchini-based recipes on my blog that I have posted from last year’s harvest.

Banana Bread with Cream Cheese Frosting

We like bananas at our house but the thing is they get soft and mushy too fast, and I’m often left with a lot of over-ripe bananas. I could freeze them but usually I don’t have enough freezer space. I recently had too many ripe bananas and also too much cream cheese in my refrigerator. I therefore thought — why not make banana bread with a cream cheese frosting?

My Favorite Cornbread

I did not grow up with cornbread and did not inherit a legacy of making it. My family, however, really loves cornbread, especially when it is a bit sweet and rich. I have been making cornbread off and on for over 20 years, and have settled on the following recipe as my favorite way to make it.

Simple Brioche Hamburger Buns

Once in awhile my husband and I get a craving for a big, juicy, delicious burger. He is of the sort that would be happy to go out and by one from a restaurant. I, on the other hand, love to make great burgers from scratch. It’s not something I do all the time so when I do it, I like to go all out and make it even better than you’d ever find in a restaurant. My husband was fine with that, so I set out to work. Every great burger starts with a great bun, and that is the topic of my post today.

Caribbean Banana Bread

When I get up in the morning I like to have some kind of light and sweet bread or muffin with my coffee. One of my favorites is banana bread. This is something that I’ve made dozens if not hundreds of times and is a great way to use up extra bananas when you have them.

Parmesan Thyme Popovers

Last Thursday was Thanksgiving and I hope you had a good holiday if you celebrated. This year there were just three of us but I kept very busy in the kitchen like usual. I made a lot of traditional American dishes like baked ham, stuffing, potato gratin, and pies. Like usual I also served bread. Normally I buy dinner rolls from the store but this year I made something new: popovers to go with my ham feast.

Buttermilk Biscuits

Last week my son came across a cooking video where he learned about a fried chicken sandwich made with biscuits. I didn’t really feel like making this, but I ended up doing it for him, and found out that this is indeed a pretty awesome type of sandwich. I will show how to make it in another blog post.
