Beef Stew

Beef stew has a very special memory in my mind. My mother-in-law introduced beef stew to me when I first moved to United States many years ago. I loved it right away, and still love the combination of tender beef cubes, chunky potatoes, carrots, and celery in a gravy.

Mushroom Burger with House Sauce

It seems like there is no end to possible burger recipes, and I wouldn’t bother you with another except this one is pretty unique. My house sauce is probably like nothing you’ve tasted, as it has hints of sriracha and cinnamon as well as other more standard ingredients. As you can tell from the name, this burger has mushrooms, but this is a “blended burger” meaning that the mushrooms get into the burger in a creative way.

Stir Fry Beef and Broccoli

This week I have been spending a lot of time cleaning up my summer garden and taking care of new fall plantings such as kale, chard, and spring mix. I’ve also been trying to exercise more and cook less. Therefore this blog is about how to spend less time in the kitchen. The recipe we make today is a relatively fast one called beef and broccoli.

Stir Fried Pepper Steak

If you go to the food court of any big shopping mall you will almost always find a Chinese restaurant of some sort. A long time ago when I worked in a mall, I would often eat lunch at that mall’s Chinese restaurant with my co-worker. My favorite thing to order was Chinese Pepper Steak. Big Mac Home Version

When I first came to the United States and was a student, I worked at a McDonald’s fast food restaurant for a period of time. Their most famous sandwich is probably the Big Mac. This is a towering sandwich with two patties and three buns. This was too much for me (and still is!) but there is something about the unique flavor of the Big Mac sauce that I have always liked. When I took my lunch break, I would ask my co-workers to make a regular hamburger for me, but with the Big Mac sauce that I liked. I don’t know if that is something that you can still do, but for me it’s what I liked at McDonald’s back then.

Mary’s Peak Burger

I am a sucker for cooking contests and love to enter them. I recently entered this recipe into Bon Appétit’s blended burger contest. The requirement was that the burger mix be at least 25% chopped fresh mushrooms.

Beef Keema

Keema is a ground meat curry made with Indian spices, potatoes, peas, and tomatoes. Although I didn’t grow up having keema curry, I have come to love it as an adult. Traditionally this curry is made with lamb. I have tried making keema curry with lamb as well as chicken and beef. My favorite is the beef version and that’s what we’re making today.
